In the spirit of patching up their relationship, Disney is currently in talks with Johnny Depp to give him back his main character roll in Pirates of the Caribbean as Captain Sparrow.
Disney is allegedly trying to lure Depp back with a mouth-watering deal worth $301 million. Depp has starred in the franchise for 15 years and 5 movies.
The deal has come after Depp won a court battle against his ex-wife Amber Heard. The 59-year-old was suing Heard for defamation after she spoke to Washington Post stating that she is a victim of abuse. She did not directly name Depp as the abuser but he ended up losing lucrative acting deals after the article was put out.
Depp was booted from the franchise in 2018 and lost out on a $22 million pay out after the article. Not only did the article damage his pockets, it also damaged his reputation as he felt as though he was ‘guilty until proven innocent.’
Depp who sought $50 million in damages from Heard was instead awarded $10 million in compensation damages and $5 million in punitive damages while Heard, was awarded $2 million in compensation charges.
