Only two games into the season, but already four points behind Manchester City, Liverpool’s start to the campaign has given Jurgen Klopp numerous headaches.

On Monday, August 15, Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace in front of a packed Anfield crowd. Two brilliant finishes from Wilfred Zaha and Luis Diaz were reflected on the scoreboard as the Reds stumbled for the second week in a row. The evening was marred even further for Jurgen Klopp’s side by a red card for Darwin Nunez on his home debut.

Nunez lost control after a scuffle with Palace defender Joachim Andersen off the ball and thrust his head into the face of the Palace defender in the 57th minute, with referee Paul Tierney close by.Nunez was immediately shown the red card, and his teammates had to calm him down as he attempted to confront Tierney.

Liverpool pushed for a winner that would have sent Anfield into a frenzy, but Vieira’s determined team defended with calm heads and impressive spirit to end a run of ten consecutive defeats to Klopp’s side. Despite the crowd’s backing, Liverpool’s attack spluttered in the closing stages and Palace deservedly left Merseyside with their first point of the season.

Liverpool’s next match will be away at a Manchester United side who have lost their first two games of the season.
