An abandoned newborn baby boy has been found by Mauritius airport staffers in the rubbish bin of a plane’s toilet.

Following this, a 20-year-old woman from Madagascar, suspected of having delivered on the flight, has been nabbed.

Arriving from Madagascar, the Air Mauritius plane landed at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport on January 1.

Authorities made the discovery during the screening of the aircraft for a routine customs check.

The baby was immediately rushed to a public hospital for treatment.

The suspected child’s mother, who initially denied the boy being hers, underwent a medical examination that confirmed that she had just given birth.

She was then placed under police surveillance at the hospital.

Reports indicate that both she and the baby are doing well.

The Malagasy woman, who arrived in Mauritius on a two-year work permit, will be questioned after her release from the hospital and face charges of abandoning a newborn.
