The Nigerian parliament has declared a national emergency over ritual killings. Toby Okechukwu, a minority leader, blamed the vice on Nollywood films with ‘juju’ (magic) plots.

All works with ritual killings as part of the plot have been ordered to be banned by the film licensing board. The move comes after the murder of a 20-year-old woman earlier this month in a suspected ritual slaying case that shook the country.

Those who carried out the murder are accused of planning to sell her body parts for profit.

Yul Edochie, a Nollywood actor, has dismissed claims that Nollywood films are to blame for the country’s ongoing ritual killings.

The actor and son of a legend, Pete Edochie bare his mind via Instagram while reacting to a call by the House of Rep to declare a state of Emergency over ritual killings in the country.

Yul said the reason for the rise of ritual killings is due to the high level of hunger and poverty faced by Nigerians. He urged the government to find a lasting solution to the suffering of the people.
