Singer Taylor Swift is facing serious backlash for her ‘Anti-Hero’ video which forced her to edit scenes which people termed as ‘fatphobic’.
In the original video, Taylor steps on a weighing scale which reads ‘fat’ and she shakes her head in disappointment. The scene was not received well by her fans as they perceived it as hateful and fatphobic.
However, Beat, an eating disorder charity campaign came to Taylor’s defense stating that she was giving her personal experience, which the singer has been open about. Taylor revealed that she struggled with eating disorders and her body image in the past.
“When public figures like Taylor Swift choose to speak about their own journeys with an eating disorder, it can have a positive influence,” said Tom Quin, Director of External Affairs at Beat.
Anti-hero is one of the tracks off Swift’s new album, Midnights. Released last week, it has already broken the record for the most-streamed albums on Spotify in one day.
Taylor has now joined the list of celebrities who have been forced to make changes to their work. Beyonce also joined the category as her song ‘Heated’ received a lot of backlash from the Ableist community.
