On the first day of his four-day African journey, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was greeted with an official ceremony in Kinshasa, the Congolese capital.
Senior Congolese officials, including Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Christophe Lutundula Apala Pen’Apala, and Turkiye’s Ambassador in Kinshasa Murat Ulku, greeted Erdogan at the Kinshasa International Airport in the city.
Erdogan was greeted with an official ceremony at the presidential palace by his Congolese counterpart, President Felix Tshisekedi after arriving at the airport.
Erdogan is accompanied by prominent Turkish officials, including Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Communications Director FahrettinAltun, Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin, and Ismail Demir, the head of the Defense Industries Presidency.
Erdogan will travel to Senegal and Guinea-Bissau in West Africa after visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The four-day African journey is scheduled to focus on all elements of bilateral relations as well as chances for Turkey and these nations to improve collaboration in all fields.
Erdogan will attend the opening ceremony of the Dakar Olympic Stadium, which was built by a Turkish business, during his visit to Dakar, Senegal’s capital. He will also lay the foundation stone for Turkiye’s new embassy building.
Turkey has delivered 100,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), pledging to donate 1.1 million more jabs.
In addition, the two countries have signed a number of agreements in areas such as military, aid, defense, and infrastructure.
According to the Congolese presidency, the Turkish president’s two-day trip to the DRC is aimed at helping Ankara and Kinshasa deepen cooperation in the political, economic, and security spheres.
Erdogan’s visit to Guinea-Bissau will be the first by a Turkish president to the West African country.
