One of the most talented young people in Cameroon 🇨🇲 is Vanessa Zommi. Her business, Emerald Moringa Tea, which lowers blood sugar levels to cure diabetes, was launched when she was just 17 years old.
Vanessa set out to find a cheap but effective cure after learning that her mother had the illness, and she found it in the Moringa tree.
“So at first I was doing this just for my mom, but then I realised this could help other people like her in Cameroon, as well as Africa,” Zommi said in an interview with ‘How We Made It In Africa‘.
Vanessa Zommi
She founded her company while studying chemical engineering at Catholic University Institute of Buea, Cameroon.
This extraordinary tree is well renowned for its therapeutic properties, and the antioxidants in its leaves allow it to treat several types of diabetes and strengthen the immune system.
Vanessa began preparing the leaf for consumption by putting it in tea-packaging for convenience and enjoyment. Her product keeps her community healthy and addresses the chronic diabetes problem in her country, which inspires her to grow her business.
Vanessa and her team were successful in getting Emerald tea into over 40 offices in Molyko, a small town in the Buea the capital of Cameroon’s South West Region.
Surveys conducted have shown that there has been a 5 to 25% increase in tea consumption. She has taught 15 elderly people how to grow, prepare, and replant moringa to benefit wildlife and the environment.
Emerald Moringa Tea hopes to improve more lives in the future by educating people about the benefits of moringa. Vanessa wants to see a culture of tea drinking emerge in the Buea neighborhood for a happier and healthier population.
When tea bags are available in homes, workplaces, and retail locations and healthier lifestyles ensue, the initiative will be successful.
AFYA TEA
Currently, Vanessa’s moringa tea has expanded to Europe, North America, and all across Africa under the brand name Afya tea.
The company is regularly featured in news tabloids and has received numerous accolades internationally. Afya tea is a beacon of the African entrepreneurial spirit and the world is taking notice.
