Abdullahi Nadir, a co-founder and top al-Shabaab member, was reportedly slain on Saturday in the Middle Jubba region of southern Somalia, according to the Somali authorities.

The director of al-religious Shabaab’s indoctrination section, Nadir, was the target of a $3 million (£2.7 million) US bounty, according to the Somali communications ministry.

Al-Shabaab further stated that Ahmed Omar Diriye, alias Abu Ubaidah, who has long been rumored to be “in poor health,” may have been succeeded by Nadir.

Nadir was reportedly murdered by a drone attack, according to unofficial media. The information ministry did not specify a drone strike, just that Nadir was killed in an operation by foreign partners and Somali security forces.

A statement on the development has not yet been made by the US Africa Command, which often strikes prominent al-Shabab members and locations.
