Steven Gerrard has been sacked following Villa’s 3-0 defeat to Fulham on Thursday night. Villa have won just two of their opening 11 games and currently sit 17th in the Premier League, level on points with Wolves and Leeds United. They sit just above the relegation zone.
Gerrard succeeded Dean Smith as Villa manager in November 2021 after leaving his role at Rangers. But the former England and Liverpool midfielder led Villa to only 13 wins from 40 games during his 11 months in charge.
The likes of former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and ex-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will be eyed keenly by Villa. Anfield legend Gerrard had been strongly tipped to succeed Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager in the past, but he will need to rebuild his coaching reputation after this experience at Villa.
