BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS- The Prince of Wales arrived in Barbados last night ahead of the historic ceremony removing his mother, the Queen, from her role as head of state after 55 years

On the anniversary of its independence from Britain in 1966, the Caribbean island will swear in its first president, Governor-General Dame Sandra Mason, as the world’s newest republic.

Several British MPs have warned that Chinese pressure is fueling a movement to remove the Queen as head of state in Barbados.

Over the past several years, Beijing has injected at least $490million into the island’s tourism industry – and has also provided loans. Dame Sandra now denies China is the driving force behind the end of 400 years of British royalty.

While the Prince of Wales arrived in Barbados amid Royal Family turmoil; the Queen, Charles, and Prince William threatened to hire lawyers to sue the BBC over the final segment of the inflammatory documentary series probing their relations with the media during Megxit.

It is expected that part two of ‘The Princes and The Press’, airing tonight at 9 pm, will lead to even more controversy, as there will be suggestions William, the Duke of Cambridge, allegedly planted stories about Harry’s mental health

Charles is on the island at a time when a new book claims he is the one who questioned the skin color of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children.

Royal heir to the throne arrived in Barbados late Sunday night aboard a ministerial jet, the Voyager, and was greeted by a large diplomatic party, led by the British high commissioner, Scott Furssedonn-Wood.

The prince was welcomed by Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley and military leaders on a red carpet. The prince’s arrival was marked by a 21-gun salute and a Guard of Honour, as well as a military band at Grantley Adams International Airport.

The Prince of Wales will speak shortly after midnight tonight on Barbados’ transition from a colony to a republic as part of a ceremony to mark the relationship between Barbados and the UK.

Prince Charles represented the Queen when Zimbabwe became independent in 1980, and he was present when Hong Kong was handed over to China in 1997.
