Chelsea are in talks to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly as they try to rebuild their defense. The Senegal international has been on the radar of many top clubs but will join the premier league club in this transfer window.
The Blues lost Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and Andreas Christensen to Barcelona this summer – both on a free transfer leaving Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr as the only senior central defenders in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
The deal to bring in Kalidou Koulibaly could get more traction as he shared a great relationship with Chelsea and Senegal goalkeeper Eduardo Mendy. Both players were crucial pieces in Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations victory last year where Koulibaly labeled his teammate as the best in the world.
He has only one year left on his contract with Napoli. Koulibaly joined Napoli from Genk way back in 2014 and he has since then gone on to become one of the best defenders in Serie A and arguably the world. He is a Naples legend in his own right and his performances have never dropped all these years.
Even the past season, the Senegalese man was exceptional for Napoli in the Serie A and Europa League leading the team with his performances. In 34 games for the Italian club last season, Koulibaly scored three goals and provided three assists across all competitions.
