Scores of Tunisians from various political and ideological backgrounds have gathered  in Tunis to express their unwavering support for the Palestinian people.

The Protest drew attention to the dire situation in Gaza, where approximately one million residents have been displaced due to a week of intensive Israeli bombardment

“There isn’t an event linked to Palestine that doesn’t bring Tunisians of all political and ideological persuasions together, and in my opinion, Palestine is the cause that unites Tunisians,” a demonstrator dubbed Bahri Arbaoui said.

Ammar Jmaai, another demonstrator said:

The Tunisian people, even if they have distanced themselves from politics in Tunisia and avoided political demonstrations, remain vigilant in the streets, especially when it comes to the issue of freedom.”

So far, about one million residents have been displaced in the Gaza Strip by a week of heavy Israeli bombardment, executed in response to a bloody and unprecedented attack by Hamas militants on Saturday 7 October.

The escalation of violence in the region has resulted in a significant humanitarian crisis, prompting Tunisians to voice their concern and empathy.

THOUSANDS RALLY GLOBALLY

On Saturday, thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered in the US capital, marching past the White House to chants of “Free Palestine” as the death toll continued to climb in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Across the country, Americans have held pro-Palestinian protests with crowds gathering in Los Angeles, New York and Dearborn, Michigan – home to one of the largest populations of Arabs and Arab diaspora in the United States.

In the United Kingdom, rallies took place in Manchester in northern England, Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland, and London, amid police warnings that anyone showing support for the armed group Hamas could face arrest.

Protesters marching through the heart of the British capital were shadowed by a heavy police presence of more than 1,000 officers.

Demonstrations in support of Palestine also took place in Switzerland’s capital Geneva, in Turin – northwestern Italy, and in the Irish capital, Dublin.

In Morocco’s Rabat, thousands marched in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
