The wildlife agency of Ethiopia 🇪🇹 is organizing a group of hunters to hunt dangerous hyenas close to Addis Ababa.

This follows an increase in hyena attacks on people in the city and its vicinity recently. According to Banki Budamo from the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority (EWCA) , eight individuals have died in Addis Ababa in the past two years. Experts argue that the rise in assaults is a result of increased logging and home development.

A young guy was attacked and murdered by a hyena earlier this month inside a contemporary housing complex in Lege Tafo town, which is located 17 kilometers (11 miles) from the capital.

Residents were able to drive the hyena away after hearing the man’s cries for aid but were unable to save his life. The most recent instance happened when hyenas were being called out for extinction. One of the guards at Lege Tafo remarked, “Hyenas takes up residence inside unfinished houses,” and added that there were “many” of the mammals in the region.

In an effort to drive the hyenas into surrounding woodlands, the authorities organized the hunt in response. In the last three days, we have killed seven hyenas, according to Mr. Banki.

The problem appears to be more acute in Addis Ababa. The highlands surrounding Addis Ababa, notably the forest in Entoto, are home to several hyena groups. They have in the past targeted rough sleepers and have been accused of exhuming bodies. Hyenas have historically been praised for their ingestion of human trash and for managing the proliferation of stray dogs.
