Malawian head of state Lazarus Chakwera has fired his entire cabinet over graft concerns.

On Monday, the president vowed to “confront all forms of lawless conduct by public officials”.

Via the televised address, he said a new cabinet would be announced in two days.

Currently, three ministers are facing charges including the minister of lands who was arrested in December following a bribery case.

On the other hand, the labor minister has been accused of diverting Covid funds while the energy minister is accused of meddling with fuel deals. All have pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Voted in during the 2020 polls, Chakwera promised to fight corruption.

Reports indicate that last week,  two powerful church groups told him he was not doing enough to tackle the problem.
