PORT-AU-PRINCE- HAITI- James Harden of the Brooklyn Nets is not just unstoppable on the court, but also off the court. He is one of the most popular basketball players in the world. He has won many awards and championships throughout his career.
Last week, the nine-time NBA All-Star donated over 5,000 essential supplies to Haitian children through his Impact13 Foundation.
Among the supplies distributed to approximately 300 children are Adidas backpacks, socks, shoes, water bottles, basketballs, as well as personal hygiene products like Sport deodorant, body wash, and body lotions.
Impact13, Harden’s foundation, has partnered with GoPuff (go-to-platform) for immediate delivery of 3,000 personal hygiene products, including condoms, tampons, and postpartum underwear as well as sanitary pads.
“Leading by example is the only way to inspire others to step up and join the movement for betterment,” Harden said.
“I have learned a lot about the ongoing crisis in Haiti and the difficulties people face there every day, and I want to do my part to help people in Haiti.”
To take part in the project, Harden has partnered with Haitian Foundation Barbancourt and local artist Olivier A. Ganthier to make sure a new basketball court is built with Ganthier’screative artwork.
Harden continued, “it is indeed the right thing to do.” My goal was to leave something that would benefit future generations. Haitian children will now be able to play basketball on a safe court. People will be inspired to chase their dreams of playing in the NBA or WNBA.”
As for Harden’s choice of Haiti, he said “Haiti is a beautiful country with a resilient and hardworking people.”
“By providing a basketball court and other resources to Haiti, the youth will have more opportunities to succeed. A friend of mine has roots in Haiti, and they are doing great things for that country, so I want to be involved.”
Harden stated, “My goal is to win the NBA Community Assist Award. ” Although I have always been active with people, this time I intend to do more within my community and globally. My Impact13 Foundation aims to make a positive impact on people’s lives and inspire them to follow their dreams.
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. It has experienced a lot of natural disasters, which led to poverty and gang violence.
The country has also had a long history of colonization, which led to an unstable government system. As a result, Haiti is still struggling with corruption and poor infrastructure.
The latest crisis is the assassination of President Jovenel Moise who was killed at his private home on July 7, 2021. This event has led to a power vacuum and an uncertain future for the country.
