NIGERIA’S ASISAT OSHOALA BECOMES AFRICA’S FIRST FEMALE BALLON D’OR NOMINEE

Asisat Lamina Oshoala of the Super Falcons of Nigeria has been nominated for the 2022 Ballon d’Or Female Player of the Year Award. Oshoala is the first African woman to accomplish such a feat, so this is a victory for Africa as well as Nigeria.

She is the most decorated African female footballer of all time and a record five-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year. She is widely recognized as one of the greatest African female footballers of all time and one of the finest in the world.

Asisat Oshoala has set and broken numerous records. The former captain of the Super Falcons has won the CAF female African Player of the Year Award five times. She set the record for the female player with the most victories in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019 before winning it once more last month.

The 27-year-old made the 20-woman shortlist due to her outstanding performance for FC Barcelona Femeni in the previous campaign, despite dealing with injuries for the majority of the season. The Super Falcons star shared the top scorer honor with Geyse Ferreira of Barcelona after scoring 20 goals in just 19 games.

The 66th Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place in Paris, France on October 17 at the Theatre du Chatelet.
