Twitter was buzzing on Sunday after a man posted a picture of South African residents growing plants in potholes.

In the picture, residents are seen planting green leafy plants in the massive potholes. They even added soil and water to ensure the plants thrive in their new home.

The move is said to be one that the residents hope will capture the attention of the government that will in turn fix the poor state of the roads.

Another image surfaced on social media where a man got into one of the massive potholes. The hole runs all the way from his feet to his knees.

The lack of road maintenance has been an ongoing issue for many years and a threat to the lives of motorists as the potholes cause road accidents especially at night when one cannot see them clearly.

Here is what the netizens had to say about the poor state of the SA roads:

“What can they do, just give the potholes their flowers. They earned it. Longevity and consistency,” tweeted Rabbit Teeth.

“It’s a crime to plant on state owned land or land that’s not yours,” tweeted Rivelino the poet.

“Maybe potholes are meant for something useful according to this government… why are they so many,” tweeted the Profounder.
