Do you ever wonder why a number of your unrivalled memories and ideas pop up when you are taking a shower?

Despite creativity seeming like a very vague activity, and a clear cut affair that can be sparked by just a few significant factors, there is a scientific reason for that and it happened again today, just before I thought about penning this article.

Data from a study carried out by cognitive psychologist Scott Barry shows that 72 per cent of people get creative ideas while in the shower.

The study, published in 2015, was commissioned by the German Bathroom and Kitchen Fixtures Company.

Barry’s survey submits that the sensation of the water spray combined with the tranquility of the showering ritual may help free the brain and trigger fresh thinking.

“The calm, solitary and non-judgmental shower environment may afford creative thinking by allowing the mind to wander freely and may cause people to be more open to their inner stream of consciousness and daydreams,” he says.

It is said that when humans are in a relaxed state of mind, the body generates more dopamine, a naturally occurring hormone that boosts the mood among other things.

The shower is a place where people can be unburdened (only for a few minutes) by outside distraction.

While in the shower, we allow our brains to slowly shut down and this allows a different part of our brains to light up.

Our minds never stop thinking, even when it may not feel like we are thinking at all.
