Zanzibar is on a quest to redefine African hospitality standards by venturing into the development of a seven-star hotel, Montuli, to be situated on the captivating island of Pemba. This strategic move is intricately woven into Zanzibar’s commitment to fortify its cornerstone industry – tourism.

The revelation of Zanzibar’s aspiration to establish a seven-star hotel came from Sharif Ali Sharif, the executive director of the Zanzibar Investment Authority (ZIPA), during a ceremony for another resort in North Unguja on January 6th.

In his announcement, Sharif Ali Sharif lauded President Hussein Mwinyi for his forward-thinking leadership in bringing East Africa’s inaugural seven-star hotel to Pemba Island.

This significant declaration was complemented by Sharif Ali Sharif’s unveiling of additional developmental initiatives. Among these, a notable project involves the creation of a 2500-capacity convention center in the Fumba Free Economic Zone.

Additionally, plans are in motion for the construction of stadiums, with the inclusion of renowned athletes as stakeholders, contributing to the island’s multifaceted growth.

ZIPA’s comprehensive data reveals the substantial strides made in the past three years, showcasing the organization’s contribution to the creation of 17,000 jobs through 296 projects, amassing a total investment of $4.5 billion. An impressive 112 of these projects are strategically positioned within the country’s flourishing tourism sector.

Hussein Muzamir, the visionary investor driving the Montuli project, expressed unwavering confidence in Zanzibar’s untapped tourism potential. Muzamir underscored the island’s appeal, characterized by attractive policies and an enabling environment that captivated a significant $ million investment in the Montuli project.

Beyond the realms of economic infusion, the completion of the hotel is poised to generate 200 jobs, further enhancing the island’s socio-economic landscape.
