The Malian army said on Tuesday that three Europeans suspected of “terrorism” were apprehended in central Mali during operations against jihadists.
“On April 10, 2022, a Malian military detachment from Diabaly arrested five suspects, including three European nationals,” the general staff said in a statement.
The suspects were arrested in Diabaly, about 300 kilometers (185 miles) northwest of Bamako, according to the statement.
Mali, which has been ruled by a military junta since August 2020, has been in a political crisis since 2012.
Jihadists from the north have spread into neighboring Burkina Faso and Niger.
