NIGERIA TO EXPAND BUSINESS RELATIONS WITH JAMAICA

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – High Commissioner of Nigeria Dr. Maureen Tamuno, pointed towards the economic plans of Nigeria expanding the opportunities of the well-run trade and business cooperation with Jamaica. 

This official statement comes on the heels of a virtual meeting that was held on Tuesday, deepening the business partnerships between Nigeria and Jamaica.

 Dr. Tamuno said that she had been conducting several meetings with the various ministers of Jamaica and several Jamaican business people for exploring more economic opportunities for flourishing trade operations between these two countries. 

According to the High Commissioner, since April 29, 1970, both countries have been indulged in establishing various relationships in trade, air services, and cultural ties. They have been working on strengthening their diplomatic relations for an extended period.

She said that the Fourth Session of the Nigeria -Jamaica Joint Commission would adequately provide a “formidable platform for rejuvenating existing bilateral agreements and scaling in relations in critical areas of mutual interest”.

The event was previously scheduled to be held at the starting of 2022. It was meticulously planned to be arranged in Abuja, Nigeria. 

The common areas of focus between both countries are energy and petroleum, trade, culture, agriculture, and tourism.

The areas of keen interest have been decided, such as double taxation, consular and immigration matters, establishing a Technical Aid Corps (TAC), and a new Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA).

The High Commissioner said that establishing new air-service cooperation would be a win-win endeavor for Nigeria and Jamaica. 

She added, “While Jamaica would serve as a gateway for exploring opportunities in the wider Caribbean region by Nigeria, our country would serve the same purpose for Jamaica in Africa”. 

In collaboration with the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC), she reliably informed that Nigeria recently established a free skills training event which includes head wrapping, bead-making, and batik tie and dye for young generations of Jamaica and Nigeria.
