On Monday, a 35-passenger Rwandan bus that was traveling through Kisumu County in Kenya caught fire and was reduced to a shell.

The Trinity Express Bus Company’s bus from Rwanda was traveling to Kampala in Uganda. When the accident occurred at 2.30 am in the Odoyo market, the 35 passengers were unharmed. The passengers continued their trip on another bus after losing all of their stuff in the fire.

Alphonce Kimanthi, the commander of Kisumu County Police, claimed that the bus caught fire after experiencing technical issues. According to him, “One of the rear tires had mechanical problems and the fire is suspected to have started at that point before spreading to the rest of the bus. Fortunately, none of the passengers was injured.”

According to the police chief, inquiries have been opened to determine what started the fire. “The accident could have been fatal. But fortunately, the driver was alert and helped save the lives of the passengers who evacuated the vehicle immediately when they were asked to do so,” added Mr. Kimathi.

“The incident may have resulted in death. However, thankfully, the driver was attentive and assisted in saving the lives of the passengers who instantly exited the car when instructed to do so, according to Mr. Kimanthi. In order to prevent accidents, he urged drivers and other road users to follow the law over the holiday season.
