SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS – It has been announced that Spice Girl Melanie Brown aka “Mel B” has been appointed ambassador to Nevis, the Caribbean island where her dad was born.
Using her new role as an ambassador, Mel B will work to elevate the island’s status in the United Kingdom.
The singer shared the news with an Instagram photo of herself frolicking in the azure waters of Nevis in a white bikini.
She wrote: ‘I am soooo proud and honoured that I have been made ambassador to Nevis – my dad’s homeland yipppeeeeee!!!’
It’s the most incredible island in the world and I want to help make sure EVERYONE sees just how amazingly beautiful It truly is.”
“From the people, the food, the music, the setting and the feeling you have when your there Nevis is such a special place,”Brown added.
Additionally, the singer shared photos of herself with her late father, Martin Brown, who is originally from the island.
Mel B is of mixed heritage. She was born in Leeds. She is descended from her mother Andrea from the UK.
Her first trip to Nevis was as a child and her second visit was in 2018 after her paternal great-grandmother who passed away at the age of 107.
Mel B will travel to the Caribbean in her role as UK Tourism Ambassador to the island following the post-Covid-19 pandemic, which has opened visitor access to Caribbean islands.
The CEO of the Nevis Tourism Authority, Devon Liburd, said: ‘We are so proud to call Melanie a Nevisian.
‘From her success as a Spice Girl, both musically and the difference she made in society, to the wonderful work that she is doing with Women’s Aid and now she is recognised as an MBE, she is a true inspiration to us all.
‘We are honoured and excited to be working with Melanie to showcase all that this beautiful island has to offer and the first job in her new role will be to come back and visit us all.’
