The restoration of Uber and Bolt commute services has been declared by Tanzania’s government following weeks of debate about the fate of the two businesses.
After the government’s regulatory amendments went into effect in March, Uber opted to discontinue its services in April, while Bolt decided to focus only on business clients in August.
Habibu Suluo, the director of Tanzania’s transport regulatory body (Latra), said on Monday that problems faced by the enterprises had been resolved as a result of discussions with the government.

“We met both companies on 5-6 September where we had a dialogue with their Africa representative and the two parties agreed to resume services,” he added.
He said that both businesses and the association’s members, who work as online taxi drivers in Tanzania, benefited from the deal.
