MEXICO- A third journalist who was abducted in a drug cartel stronghold in southern Mexico has not been found, authorities said.
Jesus Pintor Alegre and Fernando Moreno Villegas have been located in good health more than two weeks after they went missing, according to the Guerrero state prosecutor’s office.
As a result of a rescue operation involving the military and National Guard, the men were believed to have been freed.
Alan Garcia Aguilar, who works for the same news website and also disappeared on December 27 in a region controlled by the Familia Michoacana cartel, still remains missing.
Moreno and Garcia appeared chained hand and foot in a video posted days earlier on social media.
During their reporting in the violent southern region, Moreno said they were “paying the consequences.”
There is no doubt that Mexico is one of the most dangerous places in the world to work as a journalist.
According to media rights group Reporters Without Borders, more than 150 journalists have been murdered in the country since 2000.
