AUTHORITIES TIGHTEN CURFEW HOURS IN THE CARIBBEAN

CARIBBEAN- CASTRIES, ST LUCIA- Authorities in Saint Lucia have tightened their existing COVID-19-related curfew through the morning of Sept. 7, due to an increase in COVID-19 cases.

COVID-19 Curfew Tightened

In a statement under the new directives, the government said the curfew is in effect through Friday, Sept. 3. From 7:00 pm and end at 4:00 am, while on Saturday, Sept. 4, the curfew will run from 4:00 pm through 4:00 am.  Monday, Sept. 6, effectively creating a 24-hour curfew on Sunday.

COVID-19 Curfew

The measures will remain in place until September 14. In addition, the government also announced that business establishments must close one hour before the curfew takes effect.

Suspension of the sale of alcohol at bars and restaurants are banned during this period; suspension of dine-in services at restaurants and food establishments.

The scourge

Officials have banned all social and recreational gatherings; members of the same household are limited to 10 people. 

Residents may not leave their homes during curfew hours except to attend to critical matters and engage in essential work duties.

To date, 34,901 individuals have received the first dose of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 27,942 have received the second shot whereby 3,175 individuals have received Pfizer.

KINGSTON, JAMAICA- Prime Minister (PM) Andrew Holness announced that the existing no -movement days in Jamaica will continue for another two weeks.

Noting the following days; Sunday 5, September, Monday 6, September, Tuesday 7, September, Sunday 12, September, Monday 13, September, and Tuesday 14, September.

PM Holness said the curfew hours will be 7:00 pm nightly until 5:00 am the following morning on Wednesdays – Fridays and 6:00 pm on Saturdays. On Friday 3 September, and Friday 10 September, workplaces/businesses will be required to close at midday.

PM Holness indicated that “Despite the extended curfew hours, we want the vaccination programme to continue in full force. Certain vaccination sites will remain open during curfew hours and on no-movement days. Persons who wish to receive the vaccine will be allowed to do so during hours as was done over the last weeks.”

Whereby, the three months extended State of Emergency (SoE) to curb the current spread of the COVID-19 virus in Trinidad and Tobago was passed in parliament on Wednesday 25 August, with 21 Government PMs voted for the extension of the curfew and  18 Opposition MPs abstained.
