The ball used by Diego Maradona to score the ‘Hand of God’ goal against England in the 1986 World Cup is up for sale – and could fetch almost $3.3 million when it goes up for auction

One of the most famous goals in football history was scored when the Argentine maestro punched the ball into the goal. However, Tunisian referee Ali Bin Nasser conceded that he could not spot the incident and was relying on his linesman for the decision.

Now, the match ball that was used on that occasion is going up for sale in the UK. Due to Maradona’s cheeky antics and the “Goal of the Century,” one of the greatest solo goals in World Cup history, England lost 2-1 in the quarterfinal in Mexico City.

The referee on that day, Ali Bin Nasser, has kept hold of the ball ever since, but has now decided to sell it up with Graham Budd Auctions on November 16 in what is set to be another historic sports memorabilia auction. The Tunisian said he felt it was the right time to share the item with the world and expressed hope the buyer would put it on public display.
