Fulham will be playing Premier League football next season after securing a promotion from the Championship. Victory over Preston was enough to secure a safe return to the topflight after an exceptional season at Craven Cottage.
Two goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic – who has now scored 40 in the Championship alone this campaign – and one from Liverpool-bound Fabio Carvalho sealed a routine victory by the River Thames.
The Cottagers have 86 points with four games remaining and are now 13 points clear of Huddersfield in third, with the Terriers only having three fixtures left to play. Only Nottingham Forest could have denied Fulham promotion, but they are now 16 points behind the Londoners and can get a maximum of 15 more from their remaining five games.
The London side’s promotion had looked inevitable for some time, but celebrations were put on hold last week when it lost at Derby County.
The supporters stormed the pitch after the final whistle as they toasted a memorable campaign for Marco Silva’s side. Though this is Fulham’s third promotion in recent times, this is the first time in this recent run that they have secured an automatic spot back to the top flight.
