Moscow has issued a stark warning, threatening to target British military assets within Ukraine and beyond if Kyiv’s forces utilize British-supplied long-range missiles against Russia. This ominous declaration came in response to British Foreign Secretary David Cameron’s endorsement of Kyiv’s right to deploy such weapons for self-defense during his recent visit to the Ukrainian capital.
Cameron’s statements, permitting the use of British long-range weapons by Ukrainian forces, drew a sharp reaction from Moscow. The Russian foreign ministry summoned British Ambassador Nigel Casey in Moscow to convey their concerns. They cautioned that any use of British-supplied arms by Ukrainian forces against Russia could prompt retaliatory strikes on “any U.K. military facility and equipment on Ukrainian territory and beyond.”
Furthermore, Russia announced plans for new nuclear weapons drills near Ukraine’s borders, citing perceived threats from Western leaders and NATO military exercises in the region. This escalation illuminates the mounting tensions between Russia and the West, with Ukraine caught in the crossfire.
Meanwhile, Ukraine faced challenges in maintaining its electricity infrastructure following Russian strikes on energy facilities. Hundreds of thousands of people lost power in the northeastern Sumy region, prompting urgent efforts to restore electricity.
Ukrainian Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko called for increased sanctions on Russia’s energy sector in response to the attacks, emphasizing the need to deprive Russia of its influence in global energy markets.
