Mathias Pogbas, Paul Pogba’s elder brother, has been detained and placed under formal investigation in connection with an alleged extortion case against the Juventus star.
Mathias Pogba acknowledged being responsible for the French, Italian, Spanish, and English-language social media videos in which he threatened to make “great revelations” about his brother Paul Pogba, France teammate Kylian Mbappe, and Paul Pogba’s agent Rafael Pimenta.
In response, Paul Pogba issued a statement explaining how he had been the target of an alleged extortion attempt and threats from a group that Mathias Pogba and Paul’s boyhood buddies were allegedly a part of.
Paul Pogba claimed he was the target of a £11.3m blackmail plot. Mbappe has sided with Paul Pogba over accusations the Juventus midfielder used a witch doctor to cast a spell on him.
“Today I prefer to believe the word of my team-mate,” he said. “It is his word against the word of his brother, I am going to believe my team-mate. “It’s not a time to put more onto him. I’m pretty detached from it all.” Mathias Pogba had a modest soccer career as a forward with lower-tier teams in England and other European countries. Pogba is currently on the injury table for Juventus and is yet to make his official ‘second debut’ for them.
Pogba faces a race against time to be ready for Qatar 2022 and France’s opening game at the World Cup against Australia after undergoing surgery.
