Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea were dumped out by Brighton, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest respectively.

Arsenal had gone undefeated in their previous 12 home games in all competitions. Brighton, the last away team to win at the Emirates in April, came from behind to defeat the Gunners 3-1. Arsenal took the lead through Edward Nketiah, but Danny Welbeck, Kaoru Mitoma, and Tariq Lamptey sent Brighton through.

Tottenham lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest despite fielding a strong starting lineup that included Harry Kane, Ivan Perisic, and Eric Dier. Forest’s lenan Lodi and Jesse Lingard scored early in the second half. Forest were reduced to ten men on 75 minutes when Orel Mangala received his second yellow card, but Spurs never looked like mounting a serious comeback.

Chelsea’s defeat was less surprising, as they were defeated 2-0 at Manchester City, who have won the EFL Cup six of the last nine seasons.

The draw for the next round will take place on Thursday night, following the match between Manchester United and Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
