Paris Saint-Germain and Lionel Messi have finally reached an agreement on a contract extension. A verbal agreement is said to be in place for the 35-year-old to continue with the Ligue 1 giants, putting an end to speculations of a return to Barcelona and momentarily halting a purported move to MLS side Inter Miami. He will extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain for one more year.

Messi joined the Parisians after leaving Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer of 2021. He has scored 23 goals and provided 29 assists in 53 appearances across competitions during his time at the Parc des Princes. That includes 12 goals and 14 assists in 19 appearances across competitions this season.

There were also suggestions that Messi would quit football after winning the World Cup with Argentina.But he intends to continue representing his country, stating he wants to “continue playing as a champion”.
