Liverpool have won the race to sign Dutch international forward Cody Gakpo after PSV Eindhoven announced an agreement with the English giants on Monday.
The PSV forward can play on the left side of an offensive three or through the centre of the attack and was previously linked to a move to Manchester United, but Liverpool have jumped in to complete a surprising and lightning fast transfer for the 23-year-old attacker.
Due to the injuries to Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz, Liverpool felt that their attack has to be strengthened. Gakpo may also enable Liverpool to replace Firmino in the future. Darwin Nunez has already been added to their forward line, but despite frequently finding himself in advantageous positions, he has had trouble finding the back of the net.
The Reds sit sixth in the Premier League, five points outside the top four places that secure qualification to the Champions League after a poor start to the season.
