Grand Rapids, Michigan Police Officer Chris Schurr, 31 was charged on Thursday, June 9th with second-degree murder for fatally shooting unarmed Patrick Lyoya in the back of the head on April 4th, 2022.
The court was packed with his supporters who wore “Black the blue” shirts and pins.
Schurr was bailed out of jail with $10,000 (10% of the total $100,000 bail) on June 10, 2022. He is scheduled to report back to court on June 21 morning.
Patrick Lyoya, 26, was a father to two children and the eldest in his family of 6. He was fatally shot by the officer Schurr on April 4 at the back of his head while was subdued and his face pined to the ground.
Mr. Layola was an immigrant in the US 🇺🇸 from The Democratic Republic of Congo 🇨🇩. He and his family had migrated to the US in 2014 as Congolese refugee fleeing insecurity when he came as a teenager.
