According to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, at least nine people were killed after an explosion on Aba Road in Kano’s Sabon Gari neighborhood on Tuesday.

The bodies were discovered in the rubble of a building that had collapsed next to a primary school.

The police previously stated that the explosion was caused by a gas cylinder, not a bomb, as had been speculated.

“It is not a bomb explosion, it is a gas explosion,” said Sama’ilaDikko, Commissioner of Police, in a voice recording.

“A gas cylinder explosion because there’s a welder nearby, and he’s the first victim in this situation.”

Dikko also stated that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, were looking into what caused the gas cylinder explosion.

He insisted that the situation was under control.
